Of course, there were the pledges of reform and what have you, but only a small portion of the students lived up to their oath. The very next day, tutoring sessions reserved for those struggling students were found vacant. Their are definitely one or two students that I truly worry about, but I find my time consumed with those struggling that are actually showing up for extra help. Hopefully, once quarter grades are distributed the idea of flunking a class will set in and will jump start some motivation.
One aspect of the SLCs that I did not anticipate was my own nervousness meeting the parents. There was not as much participation in the open house earlier this school year as the SLCs had. The only thing that I can compare it to is meeting a girlfriend's parents for the first time. It is a blur, worries about whether they think you are good enough, and a switch between talking too much or not enough.
