I have started to plan and implement a more student-centered environment to learn and practice aspects of language. Using these PBL type environments I will be able to interact with the class more individually (in the form of small groups) and compare formative and summative assessments scores with this new atmosphere.
Fortunately, I have a specific set of data I can compare my new findings with. My school’s 1st trimester has ended and my new data for the 2nd trimester incorporating my new action plan can be easily read and compared with the last.
I will be combining Mohan, Lee and Weinstein’s beliefs that PBL environments are a more natural way at tackling education with Lee’s assertion on how staying true to the standards are an important aspect that sometimes gets lost in PBL planning,“…projects are not a fix to instructional difficulties.”
For each project I will set parameters each group should address in their examples of comprehension.
I plan to implement 3 different strategies to determine which method would work best for this particular class.
During and after each project I will give student the same formative and summative assessment in the form of entrance/exit slips, quizzes and tests.

I plan to implement 3 different strategies to determine which method would work best for this particular class.
- I will come up with a specific task that all groups must work together to complete (Ser v Estar Stations)
- After presenting the appropriate information, I will set parameters for what I am expecting to be included in projects. However, I will leave it ultimately up to the group to decide how they would like to evidence their comprehension for the material.
- I will again present the information I will be expecting to be evidenced in projects, but as a class we will decide on at least 3 appropriate project types I will accept.
During and after each project I will give student the same formative and summative assessment in the form of entrance/exit slips, quizzes and tests.
My baseline data before any implementation are as follows:
Average Score on Formative Assessments: 84.3%
Average Score on Summative Assessment: 85.05%
