My cooperating teacher is going out of town this week for 4 days and she has asked me if I am comfortable taking over the class until she gets back on Tuesday. Of course I said yes, not wanting to put a cramp in her plans and also giving myself a little push to where I need to be teaching wise. So from Wed-Mon it is going to be all me pretty much. Other teachers have volunteered to check in with me for added support, but it is my goal to be able to wave them off whenever they enter the room. I have been an everyday classroom presence since the beginning of the school term in August and have led lessons/discussions without the teacher being there, two factors to why I am not paralyzed with fear at the moment. I have set Monday aside for a history lesson of my own making which relates with a book and future field trip our class will be taking to Chicano Park. This will be my first history lesson and am grateful the only people who will know if it bombed are the kid and myself.
I will try to blog everyday my teacher is out of town, more so to vent and to make sure I am keeping up with my predetermined goals for the class. For now, my goal is to get every student engaged. Even if my presentation style sucks, I still want total participation from the class in whatever project or activity I decide to do. I welcome any additional goals/comments/advice, particularly in these next few days
